Julia Simms | LVT, VTS (Surgery), Clinical Service Manager and Procedure Coordinator
Julia Simms, LVT, VTS (Surgery). Though Julia's heart lies in Surgery, her passions include all of Specialty Medicine. After receiving her undergraduate degree in Biology from Bridgewater College, Julia received her Associates degree in Veterinary Technology from Northern Virginia Community College. Upon graduating in 2005, she worked in an Equine/Small Animal mixed practice before joining the Internal Medicine Department at VCA SouthPaws Specialty and Emergency Center in Arlington, VA. In 2007 Julia transferred to the Surgery department where over the next 8 years she was able to develop her leadership skills by becoming a Shift Lead and then the Department Head. In 2015 Julia moved to Austin and joined the Surgery Department at AVES, again working her way up to Lead Technician and then Supervisor. In 2018, Julia completed the rigorous application and examination process to obtain her Veterinary Technician Specialty in Surgery.
When Julia isn’t assisting in treating patients, she can be found tutoring at the local community college in their Veterinary Technology program, hiking (with her two hounds in tow) or reading. She can also be found at a local music venue supporting her favorite musician-her husband, Mike. Julia's favorite place to visit is anywhere there are mountains and cooler temperatures.
