24 Hour Pet Critical Care
Critical Care
The critical care service team at the Austin Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center (AVES) is capable of treating a wide range of medical problems from minor to life-threatening. We strive to support our local referring veterinary community by providing advanced diagnostics and intensive monitoring for your pet. The critical care department works in conjunction with your regular veterinarian and other AVES specialists to provide comprehensive, quality, and compassionate care.
After completing a thorough evaluation of your pet and the medical records provided by your regular veterinarian, a unique diagnostic and treatment plan is formulated to meet your pet’s needs.
The centrally-located intensive care unit (ICU) is specifically designed for close, 24-hour intensive monitoring of your pet. The ICU is equipped with the latest technologies including blood pressure monitoring, continuous cardiac monitoring, pulse oximetry, blood gas analyzers, coagulation monitoring, ultrasonography, central venous pressure monitoring and blood typing. In the event that your pet requires oxygen therapy, our ICU contains oxygen cages that have the ability to provide a temperature and humidity controlled, oxygen-enriched environment.
